That cultural event was an activation for a number of upcoming events meant to raise funds for the school’s 90th anniversary celebrations slated for September next year. The event theme was, ‘Bana ba kgwale ba bitsana ka melodi’.

The event started with the students presenting dikgafela to the Batlokwa Kgosi Puso Gaborone and his delegation who were seated in the kgotla.

In the morning, the attendees were served with kabu, magwinya (fat cakes), sebete and gemere (ginger) for breakfast.

Motlhaolosa Poetry Ensemble kept the audience captivated with their beautiful poetry where they talked about the beauty of Setswana culture. When reciting their long and appealing poem, the group later praised Kgosi Gaborone.

They told the gathering of a good leader he was and took them through his professional journey from being a teacher to a Kgosi and his long reign as the chairperson of Ntlo ya Dikgosi.

Still in the entertainment part, one of the popular guitarist and folk singer Solly Sebotso took the elderly members of the society back in the days with his beautiful songs.

He also spoiled the audience with some of his songs like Ba dira dilo and his new song Tshaba re a ja. Singing his popular song Morena pidipidi, the old folks did not hesitate to show the young generations of what they are made of as a number of them got in the pitch and danced their heels off.

Fortunately, three of them walked away with gifts from one of the event sponsors.

Welcome Polka Group from Gabane village treated the audience to spectacular dance moves. They left them begging for more with their beautiful performance.

Culture Spears took the audience to its old days with its spectacular performances. The leader of the traditional group Kabelo Mogwe created mixed emotions for the audience, as some could not seize to sympathise with him over his failed marriage whilst some thought he was making a joke of his divorce.

He sung the crew’s old songs like Selonyana, Lerato la malatsi, Khudu and Tonkana. The clearly hurting young man asked the audience if he should remarry or not.

He further told the audience that he was afraid to marry, as he was afraid his spouse will be ‘stolen’ by another man as his ex-wife.

As usual, the Tsaya thobane singer, Dr Vom stole the limelight. When he got on the pitch, the gathering from all corners of the school ground ran into the pitch making it hard for Rangers Marena choir who were supposed to perform with the artist.

The Master of Ceremony (MC) was forced to halt the choir from performing allowing Dr Vom’s fans to join their role model in the pitch. After performing his songs, his attempt to perform with choir was futile as the uncontrollable fans cut it short.

The fans later had an opportunity to take photos with their favourite celebrity when the choir had a chance to showcase its brilliant performances.

Most of the revelers looked stunning in their traditional attires. Most of the men were wearing earth colour attires whilst a few wore the new African print and German print clothes.

As for the women, they took advantage of the event by wearing their exclusive designed African print dresses whilst a handful decided to go for smart and simple cultural clothes.
