Motsaathebe will travel to China for the next stage of the Bridge Competition

The event, which was jointly organised by the Chinese Embassy to Botswana together with the Confucius Institute at the University of Botswana (CIUB), attracted 14 participants. Tertiary Chinese students showcased a variety of talents and skills ranging from poetry, calligraphy to choreography. The topic for this year’s competition was “Dreams Enlighten the Future.”

Motsaathebe became the winner following a fierce competition and got the opportunity to travel to China courtesy of the Confucius Institute Headquarters in Hanban, China to compete in the next stage of the Bridge Competition billed for August 2017.

In the Single Prize category, third-year student in the Chinese Studies Programme at the University of Botswana, Teoclora Vidakovic walked away with Best Talent, while from BIUST Karabo Ndebele and Refilwe Kgoreletso of CIUB won Best Written Chinese Knowledge and Best Chinese Speech respectively.

The Chinese Ambassador to Botswana Zhao Yanbo honoured a level-6 student in the CIUB program, Fumamwana Lecha for being the most outstanding candidate in the competition.

According to the prescribed rules and procedures of the Chinese Bridge competition, the top winner of the preliminary competition will compete in the semi-finals and finals to be held in China, while the runner-up will accompany the winner to observe the last stages of the proficiency competition.
