BMD Factions Smoke The Peace Pipe

The meeting attracted BMD supporters, who were waiting patiently outside the meeting for the outcome.

On their agenda over the weekend, NEC was supposed to discuss the BMD youth league congress and action against those they accused of illegally attending the youth congress.

Interestingly, some NEC members hired security guards with their guard dogs for “their protection”.

“Of course we had to hire some security guards for our protection because the last NEC meeting, some of our members were manhandled.

Our meeting went well and the members at the meeting were stressing the importance of making peace.

“Therefore, in this meeting, we did not allow members of the outgoing youth league and the Ramotswa one to sit in,” BMD secretary general, Gilbert Mangole told The Monitor on sidelines of the meeting on Saturday.

He added: “We suspended the issue regarding the Ramotswa congress, the one concerning action against members.

Our meeting on May 20, 2017 is the one which will discuss those issues”.

However, Mangole said the meeting resolved that the July congress should be held in Bobonong and preparations should begin right away.

The secretary general said they would have rules and regulations, which would guide constituencies on their congresses to avoid parallel delegates from same constituencies.

He said the minutes and names of delegates would be received two weeks before the congress.

Mangole said the committee agreed that they should negotiate with the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) regarding Moshupa and Mmopane/Lentsweletau constituencies for them to be allocated to the BMD.

“The two constituencies have not been allocated as yet. The Botswana National Front (BNF) and BMD want the two constituencies.

The BNF believes they are theirs while BMD also believes they are theirs too,” he said.

It is, as yet, unclear if the issue of the BMD youth league would be resolved.
