The home side was led by newly-appointed assistant coach, Maitumelo Lotlaamoreng in the absence of head coach, Isaiah Mogwadi as the team sought to end their five-game winless run. However, it was the visitors who dominated proceedings from the first whistle and were rewarded in the seventh minute when Kennedy Taukobong rose highest to head home Gofaone Mabaya’s corner kick.
The home side levelled matters in the 18th minute as Eliphas Nyambi beat the goalkeeper from close range. Three minutes later, Nyambi broke with pace on the right wing and set up Hendrick Moyo. The latter beat the goalkeeper but had his shot blocked by Goabaone Mogorosi on the goal line. With nine minutes to the break, Taukobong turned provider as he flicked a corner kick for Thabo Ngada. The defender slotted into the back of the net to give Forest a 2-1 lead going into the half time break.
Forest continued where they left before the break and four minutes into the second half, Gofaone Mabaya hit the upright. Ngada then slotted the ball into the net from the rebound, but his effort was ruled offside. In the 51st minute, Tiro Pheresi extended his side’s lead as he beat Bokamoso Moeba from a tight angle on the left wing to make it 3-1. From yet another corner kick, Taukobong capitalised from the opponents’ poor marking as he tucked in from close range to make it 4-1 with his brace on the 65th minute. Two minutes later, Nyambi pulled one back when he beat the goalkeeper to the bottom corner from substitute, Mpho Kgomo’s cross. From the restart, Magoleng broke away with pace, the ball fell unto Molaodi Tlhaolang who chipped over advancing goalkeeper to make it 5-2. With the game evidently on Forest’s side, in the 89th minute, Nyambi turned provider this time and laid a pass to Kgomo who beat Thabo Race to the bottom corner to reduce the deficit. The Jungle Kings made it 5-4 after Kekaetswe Moloi found David Makakaba inside the box. The substitute hit the roof of the net, but it was a little too late for the home side as Forest bagged the valuable three points on the afternoon. This was Forest’s second win over Police XI in their four BTC Premiership meets as the other two ended in draws.
“We did not play well, we conceded from three corner kicks. Our defensive organisation was not up to the standard. But as we lost the grip of the game, I put in ball players; that’s when we started playing,” Lotlaamoreng said after the game. Black Forest coach, Gilbert Mushangazhike was happy to collect the maximum points on the afternoon as he targets top eight finish. “We are fighting for top eight. I am happy to collect maximum points away from home. It is not easy to score five goals away so I am very happy with how the team played,” he said.
