NPF saga: Kgosi unfazed as PAC invokes powers

When he appeared this morning, just like last week, Kgosi refused to respond to many questions posed by members of the committee relating to the DIS’ dealings in the NPF scandal, either saying the information was classified or prejudicial to the ongoing court proceedings.
In addition, Kgosi said some of the matters relating to the dealings the DIS had in relation to the NPF were not privy to the PAC.
Kgosi’s refusal prompted the acting PAC chairperson Dithapelo Keorapetse to tell the spy chief that the Committee would now be forced to write to the Speaker of the National Assembly Gladys Kokorwe to allow them to exercise their powers to force Kgosi to answer questions.
“As a committee we have resolved to write to the Speaker informing her that we want to invoke Section 13 of the Parliament Act which gives this committee the powers and privileges to force you to answer any questions posed to you by members of this committee. You will receive correspondence from the Speaker,” said Keorapetse.
However, in response Kgosi said he would await the correspondence from the Speaker. He also stated that he had expected Keorapetse’s decision, accusing the MP of already announcing the decision to the press before the PAC could discuss the matter.
Kgosi further warned the PAC that its members should know that he is also governed by an Act which has equal powers to the one the committee would rely on.
“Your Act does not supersede the law that governs me. They have the same equal powers,” said Kgosi.
