BNF congrats Botswana 2018 Commonwealth Games Team

We further congratulate the coaches and management of the Botswana team notably Botswana Athletics Association and Botswana National Olympic Committee for this sterling historic performance. The five medals - three gold, silver and one bronze - are a clear testimony what Botswana youth are capable of.

The BNF further applauds the Botswana Primary Schools Sports Association (BOPSSA), Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA) and Botswana Tertiary Students Sports Association (BOTESSA) for unearthing and grooming this talent under difficult and demoralising environment. Despite the gross negligence of the teaching profession, the teachers continue to unearth gold medallists.

The BNF under the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) promises an ideal School of Excellence which will assist the committed teachers unearth and groom raw talent in both sports and arts.

There is need to improve the working and living conditions of service, especially hours of work and salaries of the educators who are the primary custodians and trainers of the athletes. It is clear Sports and Arts are vocations in which Artists and Sport persons can make a living out of it.

Team Botswana has made Batswana proud and happy again. The 2018 World Happiness Report classifies Botswana at 146 out of 156 countries of the unhappy nations globally. Botswana is amongst war ravaged countries like Syria, Rwanda, South Sudan, Burundi, etc. The remarkable sports performance must have removed us from this unenviable category.

We call upon the relevant Ministries to facilitate sustainable strategies of fostering this exceptional sports performance.

Well done Commonwealth champions. Batswana are happy again.
