It is understood the BCP has been given four wards to contest in 2019, which are Mogoditshane Central North, which the party won in 2014 as well as Ledumadumane West, Nkoyaphiri North and Nkoyaphiri Central.

The Botswana National Front has been given Mogoditshane North, Ledumadumane East and Mogoditshane East while the Botswana Movement for Democracy has been given Mogoditshane Central South, Nkoyaphiri South and Mogoditshane Central.

The Botswana Peoples Party, a member of the UDC coalition, was not represented in the ward allocation and it does not exist in Mogoditshane. During earlier broader talks towards opposition unity, the UDC and BCP had agreed that ward allocations should be completed by the end of March, but it is reported that a request had been made to temporarily suspend the process, in order to focus on the Tlokweng parliamentary by-election.

Sources however said the talks had been finalised in Mogoditshane.

“It is true we completed ward allocation last week and all concerned parties have signed the agreement. The wards were allocated looking at the performance of parties in 2014,” a highly placed source told Mmegi.

“Each party had three representative during the talks and the temporary committee is due to brief the Member of Parliament today (Thursday) on the conclusion of the allocation and to present the report to different secretary generals of the concerned parties.”

Results from the 2014 general elections suggest that had the parties cooperated then, they could have won all 10 wards.

Out of the 10 wards, the BCP and UDC won two wards with the Botswana Democratic Party grabbing the rest. Area MP, Sedirwa Kgoroba said he was waiting to be briefed on the matter.

“I don’t have details on the talks because I have not yet been briefed. Again, the reports will have to reach the party leadership for different parties first,” he said.
