Dan dumps BPP for BDP

Dan joined the ruling party on Tuesday, the day he handed in his resignation letter to the BPP. The application letter for a BDP membership was addressed to the Francistown region secretary, Douglas Letsholathebe.

At the time of quitting the BPP he was the party treasurer though he was under indefinite suspension.

For two consecutive elections Dan was also the BPP councillor in the Tati East constituency until 2009. At one point he served as the party’s national organising secretary.

“I have received Dan’s resignation letter and submitted it to the party secretary general,” BPP administration secretary, James Kaisara said today.

The BDP secretary for the Francistown region Letsholathebe also confirmed that Dan has joined the ruling party. Dan was not available for comment despite repeated efforts to reach him.

Dan was suspended from the BPP activities late last year pending police and internal probes into financial irregularities.

The BPP alleged that Thabani Peter who is the deputy secretary general and Dan on several occasions withdrew money from the party bank account without the knowledge of other party officials. The money was reportedly not used for party activities.

It is also unclear as to how the money was used although there are allegations that the duo might have used the money for personal gain. The bank withdrawals are said to have started around March last year.

The central committee is said to have realised that money was missing from the party accounts in the middle of October last year. The matter was also reported at Kutlwano Police.

Yesterday the station commander at Kutlwano police, Neo Serumola said the matter involving Dan and Peter is still under investigation.

Dan was also suspended by the BPP in 2013 after he was quoted in a local newspaper saying that the party has lost its spark and must disband instead of joining the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC). During the interview he added that most BPP members do not support the Umbrella project.
