Man beats lover to a pulp, hangs himself

It remains a mystery as to what could have transpired between the two lovers that led to the alleged brutal beating.

According to police reports, on the dusk of Monday the neighbours responded to the woman’s loud scream for help from her family home.

Upon arrival, the man identified as the deceased by the neighbours, fled the scene through the window of the house and inside the house, the woman was found bloodied and battered, lying unconsciously on the floor.

The neighbours helped the woman to Palapye Primary Hospital where she was admitted before she was referred to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital the next day.

It was reported that the couple is known in the village and has been staying together at the woman’s family home. The parents to the woman live in Palapye.

The morning after the incident, the man was found dead hanging from a tree at his father’s house, not far away from his lover’s house. He was left in the care of his father’s home at Malaka.

Criminal Investigation Department officer in charge, Assistant superintendent Kebonye Kodumane of Palapye police confirmed the incident.

He said the woman is in Nyangabgwe.  She is unable to speak, but is responding to treatment.

He suspects that the deceased might have thought the woman had passed on hence why he claimed his own life.

“Our investigations continue and no one knows what could have led to these unfortunate incidents,” he said.

“God willing the woman will get better soon and shed light on what could have happened between the two of them,” he said.

The body of the deceased awaits an autopsy at the Palapye Primary Hospital morgue.
