Steez perished in a car accident on April 22 after his car caught fire near Rakops. Unfortunately, he died on the spot, as there were no fire emergency services to help put out the fire that engulfed his car.

His father, Joseph Kegakilwe said that with so many accidents where motor vehicles end up in flames, it is time the Government placed fire emergency services in every police station to save lives.

He said it was sad that although there were people who wanted to help his son, nothing could be done because of the fire that engulfed his car.

“More lives will continue to be lost unless the Government extends the fire emergency resources to every police station so that whenever an accident occurs, they rush and help the victims on time. It does not help much when the police arrive to help without fire extinguishers because they cannot douse the fire,” he said. He believed that if there were fire emergency motor vehicles, maybe his son’s life could have been saved.

Another speaker at the funeral, Wandy Sebopeng appealed to drivers to buy fire extinguishers so that they can safeguard their lives as well as help other motorists in similar situations. She said that by the time Steez’s car caught fire, there were cars by the roadside, but no one helped because they did not have the right resources.

“In other countries like Zimbabwe, no motorist is allowed to drive without fire extinguishers and more lives are being saved. So, it’s high time Batswana meet the international road standards otherwise we will continue losing more lives even in cases where death could have been avoided,” she added.

Meanwhile, other speakers appealed to Mahalapye leadership to honour Steez’s name and his love for the village by naming either a park or any other development after his name.

Gilbert Seagile, commonly known as PP in the music circle, appealed to Mahalapye East Member of Parliament, Botlogile Tshireletso who was amongst the mourners, to take the idea to Parliament and honour Steez whom he described as a hero to many youngsters, especially in Mahalapye.

“This man was very passionate about Mahalapye. The look on his face when he talked about his village was priceless. Therefore, it will be an honour to name something after him for his legacy to live on,” he said.

He said that is why he created Fieng diponeng t-shirts and even groomed some of the youngsters here to be what they are today.
