Speaking during the Labour Day on Monday, BOFEPUSU secretary general Tobokani Rari said that the union has taken a decision to quit the PSBC in order for the unionising workers under BOFEPUSU not to suffer. Rari said they are quitting not because they are cowards, but just for the good of their members. He said they will write a letter to the director of Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM), Ruth Maphorisa’s office demanding them to give their members the three percent salary increment that has been given to the public servants who are not unionised.

“This is a decision that we have taken as BOFEPUSU and we are doing it for the good of our members. After all, ever since the PSBC was introduced, the relationship between the members within it has never been normal. The PSBC has been introduced as an industrial council which includes all, but some people chose to exclude others from it,” Rari said.

He added that the leaders of the country have never been interested in following the PSBC rules and regulations. He singled out President Ian Khama and said he has attitude of announcing salary increments of public servants outside the scope of the PSBC.

Rari further said BOFEPUSU could not be part of the country’s criminal activities. He added that they could not say they are part of the PSBC whilst indeed there is no bargaining council.

BOFEPUSU secretary for labour, Johnson Motshwarakgole shared similar sentiments as Rari saying they have already informed their members that they are quitting. He said BOFEPUSU wants to give Khama the platform to make decisions alone as that is what he likes.

He mockingly dared Khama about his retirement package that had recently been highly talked about saying, “When Khama’s father died, his salary was P800. I am not saying it is wrong for improvements but I think if a President can be given so much retirement package, Members of Parliament must also be given something when they retire. The country should provide for the people not only for one person”.

He said instead of retiring and going to rest, Khama will never find peace as he will be leaving the presidency seat with a very bad history because Batswana are already complaining about the status of public servants, Court cases and his retirement package.
