As electronic music artists they focus on producing beats and remixing tracks which are already available online. The name 9096 was inspired by the years that they were born in respectively which are 1990 and 1996. Mmolotsi is the older one while Letso is the youngest.

“We both had love for music but I was into rapping and producing hip hop beats till it just happened that I started working on electronic music beats while my young brother was watching and he later joined me,” said 27-year-old Mmolotsi.

The duo noted that they have been working on the music material for the past years and they feel it is time they have to come out and release the music. They have started off on a good note with their music getting airplay on different radio stations including South Africa’s 5FM.

Despite not having performed live on stage, they have already started distributing their music on different digital platforms.

“We are driven by passion and this is why we stayed some time just making music without putting it out there. We are taking one step at a time,” said Letso.

The 9096 siblings stated that being one of the few electronic music acts in the country is actually making them much stronger and having focus on helping the music genre grow.

“We would like to believe that electronic music is growing locally compared to some years back. We now have events that strictly play such music. We even have DJs and artists that are into electronic music,” Mmolotsi said.

9096 released an EP this past Monday titled Remote generation.
