Rollers lost the gate taking proceeds from their league clash against Mochudi Centre Chiefs on April 15.

Four suspects, who have been charged with a single count of armed robbery and arrested on separate occasions this month, appeared before Extension II court Magistrate Ntombizodwa Ncube yesterday.

Appearing as a witness in the case, the Investigating Officer (IO) Elias Segokgo told the court that the police are yet to recover the money but have found a bag full of match tickets upon arresting Jeffery Molefe and Sihlule Mzwilawa who are second and third suspects respectively. “We have not recovered the money which was part of the stolen items, a sum of P200,000. Upon questioning second accused (Molefe), he took us to Metsimotlhabe river near Morwa village where he showed us a bag full of booklets for the tickets for the game.

He told us that after dropping first accused (Molefe Mogatusi) at Oodi village, they threw the bag into the river,” he said.

Segokgo further said Molefe told the police that they took the bag from the Rollers’ officials who were transporting the money to the team’s office located at CA Sales. He also said the police have not arrested the fifth suspect who is still on the run.

Segokgo also disclosed that the first suspect, Mogatusi has three pending cases before different courts of law in the country that include, theft, burglary and armed robbery. Amongst the matters, one was withdrawn as the accused had absconded.

“I have not interviewed the fourth accused and did not confront other suspects as I was on sick leave the time he was arrested,” Segokgo said of George Arabang, who handed himself to the police last week.

He asked the court to remand the suspects in prison as he said if granted bail they would temper with the police’s attempts to arrest the fifth suspect.

Pleading for bail, Arabang told the court he would like to be granted bail as he said he does not have any connection with the fifth suspect and he cooperates with the police.

“I am Motswana, I reside here, and I was born and bred in this country. I will not go anywhere. I have shown that I am cooperative with the police as I handed myself after learning that I was wanted.

I do not know the fifth suspect so I see no reason to keep me in prison, I can not temper with the police’s hunt for the person as I do not know him,” he said.

Ncube ordered that all the suspects be remanded in custody. They will appear again in court on Thursday May 11 to know the fate of the bail applications.
