Sensei Christopher Ponatshego has been appointed the junior team coach while Sensei Goitseone Mongologa is in charge of children. Mmegi Sport is informed that Tafa did not deserve to be given the position, but he is being rewarded for voting in the current executive committee. Some of the complaints raised are that Tafa would not be training the team as frequently as expected because he stays in Francistown.

Some of the applicants who are alleged to have shown interest in the position are Sensei George Tshikare and Molefhe.

“Tafa would not be training the team because he is not staying in Gaborone. Ponatshego was conducting training over the weekend in his absence. That is an indication that he should have been given both teams,” a source said.

Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) public relations officer, Sensei Isaiah Ramontshonyana said there is nothing they can do to satisfy everybody. He said when the posts were advertised, certain requirements were set and some applicants ignored them.

“Some applicants decided to leave out some of the documents that were needed. The appointment of coaches was done by a task force (and) not the executive committee,” he said.

Ramontshonyana said BOKA leadership is going to make sure that Tafa is always available to train the team all the time. He said the coach also had an advantage over other applicants because of the qualifications he has. He said the appointment had nothing to do with elections, nor payment of how he voted.

Meanwhile, some members of the previous committee have vowed to support the new coaches for the benefit of the athletes.
