Steez Aka MOCHINE O ICHENCHANG (36) was laid to rest at his home village, Mahalapye on Sunday at the Tshikinyega cemetry.

Different mourners described Steez as a humble, loving person who, regardless of his status, never looked down upon anyone.

Thabo Osekeng, who is a sports presenter at Duma FM and also Steez’s former colleague, described him as a hard worker, a patriot and an agent of change.

“Steez and I met in 2008 when I started working for the station. Due to his humbleness we became really good friends if not brothers. We had each other’s back and whenever one ran into trouble the other one was there to help,” said the visibly sad Osekeng.

Another former colleague at Yarona FM, Robbie Rob, described Steez as a seasoned rapper, radio and television presenter who defined the true meaning of hustle.

He said joining the Yarona FM station in 2012 as a consultant, he felt unwelcome as some of the colleagues felt intimidated by his presence. However Steez was the only person who made him feel welcome.

“This was exactly the kind of person Steez was, so loving and always appreciating other people. He was a powerful presence in the lives of many. We have indeed lost a hero. It is indeed a great loss to the entertainment industry,” he said.

Robbie Rob also said Steez’s love for his roots and where he comes from was also among attributes that made him stand out.

Steez‘s brother, Lekoko Tiro who was the first person to witness the crime scene when Steez met his fate on April 22, around Rakops relived the tragedy as he narrated the ordeal.

Tiro, who could not contain his grief, said that it looked like his brother’s car lost control and collided with the tourist‘s car.

Both of the cars then got engulfed by flames fortunately the police managed to remove the tourist from the car and was rushed to the hospital.

“Unfortunately for my brother it was too late as he was trapped in the car making it difficult to rescue him while his car was in flame. It was so bad the body was burnt beyond recognition that DNA had to be done in order to identify my brother’s body,” he said with difficulty as he tried to contain the tears.

He said that Steez acted like the family head therefore they have lost a mentor, a father and a brother. He however promised to lead the family as he has learnt a lot from him. Moreover, Tiro promised to look after Steez’s little daughter Sebaga.

Among the mourners were different local artists who came to bid farewell to one of their own to name but a few Vee, Mosako, Lizibo, and Thabo who was the MC.

Some of the artists performed in memory of Steez. Lizibo, who said Steez was the first person to play his debut song on air, performed his new song Malebeswa dedicating it to Steez. Mosako also performed.

Steez is survived by his father, mother, his two young brothers and his daughter. He was the CEO of his brainchild company, Home Grown Concepts. May his soul rest in peace!
