Talk-Talk Recalls Tiros Final Moments

Motlhabankwe said he was one of the first players at training and Tiro, who has been used sparingly as a squad player, had shown determination to break into the starting 11.

Rollers were preparing for a league encounter against Green Lovers on Sunday. The match was subsequently cancelled off.

“He had shown determination to break into the first team.

He was not happy that he was sitting on the bench. He showed a lot of fight.

“I remember, in one of the moves, he dribbled past me and I pulled his shirt. Now, looking back, I am thinking what if he had collapsed at that moment.”

“When he fell to the ground chasing a loose ball, we never thought it was something serious.

But I remember, he screamed twice, before he was taken away to the hospital. It was only after training that we were informed that he had passed on. It was unbelievable as we did not see this coming,” recalled Motlhabankwe.

He said the team was naturally shaken by the incident, but critically, it highlights the need for qualified medical personnel at training sessions.

“If there was a qualified person, may be his life could have been saved. Even us as players, we need to be equipped with first aid skills. Maybe we could have assisted him. It is a message to the authorities.”
