Veteran trade unionist, Japhta Radibe, however, does not seem swayed by few votes he got as compared to other contenders, and he has vowed to come back again in 2019 and contest for the parliamentary seat.

“I am proud of myself for having done this. The main aim is to remove the corrupt Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) from power. I have ideas to transform the country’s economy. I will continue to pursue my dream to represent my people in Parliament. I will sit down with my team and join forces with others as advised by the people,” he said

Radibe would however not be dragged into stating which party he will join. He said he would continue working on community projects to increase his visibility and be counted amongst capable candidates.

The passing of Davids who was allegedly killed by his farm workers in January necessitated the by-election. While over 20,000 people were in the voter’s roll, only 7,892 voted on Saturday, in an election that was won by Moagi Molebatsi of the Umbrella for Democratic Change.
