Mobini Academy officially launched

The Mobini Academy is a dance-based company that specialises in different styles of dance.  The founder, director and lead choreographer of this company, Tumiso Thomas who was once part of Mogwana Traditional Dance Troupe and Mophato Dance Theatre before he became independent, stated that the academy aims to harness and create patriots in dance for Botswana in performing arts. 

“The motive is to recognise the talent that our country possesses and to enable survival through the means of performing arts,” he said. 

Thomas who has worked with numerous award ceremonies, media houses and festivals as well as represented the country on international platforms in terms of dance added that Mobini Academy is now creating a platform for youth to soar and raise the Botswana flag high.

“This homegrown academy is self-motivated and self-driven,” he highlighted.

The event featured pieces of different dances including contemporary, African contemporary, Sofia Town, Hip-hop and Traditional dance of which will be offered by the academy.  The highlight performance of the night was a duet ensemble of Thomas and Boitumelo Mkhondo, a renowned contemporary dancer from South Africa dancing to African music played by a live band. 

Another performance that impressed the crowd was a ‘Zombie’ conceptualised hip-hop all-rounder by RoboFlex Dance Crew. 

The launch was graced by the presence of Investment, Trade and Industry assistant minister, Moiseraele Goya as well as Osi Lashani of Btv being the master of ceremonies. 

Punah Gabasiane Molale, Mogwana Dance Troupe, Tswana Sanctified Voices and The Gurus mesmerised the audience with their brilliant performances.  Also, Brave Heart Pty Ltd, Hustle Media, One Line, Emporium Line, White Lace, Trinity Mphoeng and Punah Gabasiane Molale proudly sponsored the launch. 

Thomas expressed appreciation towards the support, love and constant motivation he was getting from people concerning the preparations for the launch. 

“I’m humbled and grateful, my prayer is for all of you to prosper in your crafts and for God to continue blessing you beyond measure,” he said.
