BAA public relations officer, Ipolokeng Ramatshaba, said the team has been in camp since Monday and the success of the Commonwealth Games team is expected to rub off the juniors.

“The moral is high in the camp and the team has borrowed a leaf from their seniors who wrote history in Gold Coast. We have very strong juniors who are targeting to be part of the senior team in the near

future,” he said.

Ramatshaba said Botswana is sending 66 athletes, who will be under the

guidance of Moemedi Ndolo and Chilume Ntshwarang. Pinky Wilson is the team manager.

Some of the athletes who are expected cause havoc in Boksburg are Thuso Zeborone Machara (102m), Onneile Phokodi (400m), Refilwe Moranki (102m), Rose Sanane (100m and 200m) and Diphetogo Njoba (400m).

Ramatshaba said athletes who are traveling to South Africa would, however, not compete at the second edition of Gaborone International Meet (GIM), to be held on Sunday.

“The team would be traveling back on Sunday and we cannot expect them to come and compete upon arrival. We are aware that some of the athletes were invited to compete at GIM. We have since informed the organisers about the Regional Championships and they managed to

replace them with other talent that we have,” he said.
