Sua Flamingoes were confirmed as Debswana First Division North runners-up after their victory over Great North Tigers (GNT) on Saturday, booking a promotion play-off spot.

Flamingoes will face Prisons XI in a fortnight. Prisons XI finished second in the First Division South, behind winners, Notwane.

The winner of the two-legged play-offs will earn promotion to the BTC Premiership.

“We have been ruthless at home. We have not lost at home in the second round. We have been scoring a lot at home and conceding less. If we can manage a convincing win at home in the first leg, I think our chances of earning promotion will be very high.”

“We have relatively been solid at the back away.  I do not see us conceding a lot of goals away,” Changwe said after the GNT match.

In the second round, Flamingoes won 10 matches and drew one.

Changwe hailed unity among his players and strong support from the management as the major reason why he managed to qualify for the promotional play-offs.

“There is also strong and healthy competition among players. The strong competition has meant that there is no complacency in the team. The competitiveness in training is the reason why we have be doing well during matches,” the Zambian-born coach said.

The club will head to the play-offs without influential forward Christopher Musonda.  Musonda sustained a head injury a few weeks ago.

“He is likely to be out for some time, but we are waiting for the final results of his assessment from a specialist,” Changwe said.

Prior to his injury, Musonda scored vital goals for the Sowa Town-based club.

Over the last three years, Flamingoes mandate has been to win promotion the BTC Premiership.
