The retreat, according to Masisi, will come up with strategies of how to implement some government plans and objectives.

With the general elections just one year and six months away, Masisi’s administration is hard pressed to achieve all it can in that period.

The President told the ruling Botswana Democratic Party press conference on Tuesday, which was called to parade new recruits from the opposition, that the retreat will be attended by ministers and assistant ministers. This is the first presser he held after his inauguration as the President on April 1, 2018.

He promised that his cabinet members would be able to answer to media questions and hold press conferences regularly.

“We need the media and those who are not used to answering questions will learn. We do not have anything to hide. The Cabinet has agreed on that one,” Masisi said.

On other issues Masisi said he has handed over the chair of the BDP to the country’s vice president Slumber Tsogwane to build the party and recruit more new members and those who had left.

“Tsogwane who is the party chairperson will do even things that I had failed to do. I will always be on his side as the party President. I have given him all responsibilities. He will also travel around the constituencies to check the state of the party.”

Masisi pleaded with the BDP members to work hard during the by elections to win the areas or constituencies from opposition parties.

“Even though we have increased the number of people who voted for us at Mochudi East, I believe we could have won the area if we had looked for people who voted in 2019,” he said.
