The UDC has four affiliates, which include the BNF, Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) and Botswana Peoples Party (BPP).

Speaking at a press briefing today, the veterans’ association chairperson said that the current UDC is derailing the BNF from taking over the government. He called on BNF central committee to engage its members on the matter.

“All our resolutions will be taken to the party central committee. It will be up to the central committee to consider it or not. The association does not have power over the central committee. Of course, we can caucus but if the members do not agree with what we are saying then we will support both central committee decision and the conference one or congress if there is need for it,” Kgoadi said.

Kgoadi called all members who have more than 25 years in the party to attend July conference so that the decision on the matter could be discussed and resolution taken on it.

However BNF secretary general Moeti Mohwasa said the veteran association has not yet submitted their suggestions or resolutions to BNF central committee.

Mmegi has learnt that aside from the veterans, they are some influential members who are lobbying for BNF to pull out of the UDC.
