The engagement drew on insights from completed PPP projects across the African region as a means towards further growth of the economy.

Held at the GICC, the conference brought together key players across different sectors to explore PPP opportunities in the recently commenced Botswana National Development Plan (NDP) 11.

Guests included but were not limited to; ministries, government agencies parastatals, captains of industries from Oil and Gas, Telecommunications and Media, Power and Infrastructure, Mining and Metals, Consumer as well as Development Financial Institutions.

Public Private Partnership coordinator from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Orono Otweyo  presented on Botswana PPP Policy Framework, while Aadil Cajee, executive vice president, Energy and Infrastructure, Corporate and Investment Banking – Standard Bank South Africa presented on the PPP Funding Structures and Case Studies in Africa.

The presentations were followed by a thought provoking panel discussion led by Bogolo Kenewendo, who is a Specially Elected member of Parliament, seasoned economist and policy analyst.

Speaking to the significance of PPP initiatives, Otweyo noted that the onus is on the private sector to work together with the government to deliver on the vision of the country and her economy, with a strong bearing on the success of the partnerships.

This echoed the Minister of Finance’s call for public and private sectors to come together for great impact.

Aisam said: “It is important that we increase the level of participation in the engagements we have and conversations we drive, as these are a means towards ensuring real change, real progress, and real delivery, for the country at large.

The challenges we face are not government problems or private sector’s problems, therefore; we are in this together.

This is Stanbic Bank’s promise to its customers and key stakeholders in various sectors, to showcase capability to drive meaningful and value adding conversations whilst leveraging off Standard Bank Group expertise.

Stanbic Bank Botswana, a leader in the Corporate and Investment Banking space, has a proven track record for working to deliver real solutions that move Botswana’s industries forward.

“In our now 25 years since having opened our doors, we have worked as a business to constantly strengthen our ability and build greater capacity to make a more meaningful contribution to the progressive development of our economy.

This conference marks another step in that direction and one that we are hopeful and confident will spell greater progress for Botswana as we continue to move her forward,” Aisam said.
