The Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) launches its league sponsorship at Oasis Motel in Tlokweng today and Mascom is expected to be unveiled as the returning sponsor.

Mascom was the last company to sponsor the league in 2016. BVF spokesperson, Kagiso Meswele was cagey with details yesterday when asked about their relationship with Mascom. He told Mmegi Sport that he was not at liberty to disclose the name of the sponsor before the launch.

“If it is Mascom, it would be a welcome development. It would mean they value us and see us as good partners. But as for now I cannot deny or confirm that it is them who are coming onboard,” he said.

Meswele said it has been a difficult year for volleyball, but they kept fighting and now they are reaping the rewards. He said some clubs have been training and the rest are expected to join the bandwagon after the launch.

The league is expected to start after a month to enable clubs to prepare. One of the clubs that is already making the right noises is Mahalapye- based Mag Stimela, who have been linked with three high profile Mafolofolo players.  The club’s head coach, Maboka Molefhi said it was still early to discuss the preparations of his side.

“We invited three players from Mafolofolo to come and train with us and see if they can gel with our players. At the moment they have submitted their resignation with their former club and we are still waiting to complete the transfer process,” he said.

Mag Stimela are said to have snatched Mafolofolo captain, Tsholofelo Retshabile, hard-hitting Lizzy Gasekgonwe and Gabaresepe Mashaole. Molefhi said they decided to make a move on the trio due to their experience. He said Mag Stimela are always falling short when it comes to winning the league.

“With their experience we feel that we are going to be competitive this season,” he said.

Molefhi said the return of the league means a lot to the clubs. He said it has been a tough journey but players remained committed. He said the league is important and also assists when it comes to the selection of national team players.
