Makwala's earnings top P1million

While Makwala has made other earnings, which have not been made public, they include appearance fees.
Makwala’s prize money, which was made public, stood at P990,000 as of this week before appearance fees are even included, with more companies expected to reward the athletes for their efforts at the Commonwealth Games.
It puts Makwala as one of the highest paid Botswana sportpersons in the last year. Supersport United midfielder, Mogakolodi ‘Tsotso’ Ngele is probably the top paid, with a reported monthly salary of R150,000, which includes signing-on fees.
Baboloki Thebe was one of the biggest earners from the Commonwealth Games with his exploits landing him a combined package of P305,000.
He won a silver medal in the 400m before helping the 4x400m team to gold.Former world champion, Amantle Montsho, who took most by surprise with her spirited comeback after sometime on the sidelines, earned P285,000, in what has been the richest pickings for athletes after an international competition. Montsho won the 4x400m race before her efforts ensured the women’s 4x400m team finishes with a bronze medal.
The Commonwealth Games were the most successful for the country with five medals, including three gold, won.
Makwala’s season got better yesterday as he tied the knot to Tsotso Makgeng, in a traditional ceremony in Tlokweng.
