Apollo D to release new album

The rapper who has not released an album since 2012, when he released Good And Evil, told this publication that he has completed recording his latest album.

“My album is a mix of traditional and new age hip-hop. On one hand is the traditional boombap sound, a sound that forms a large part of my identity. It also has the new hip-hop sound. New age and old school are blended together to the best of my ability,” Apollo D said.

With the hip-hop sound having evolved Apollo D noted that he is capable of executing a sound relevant to the current hip-hop sound.

“I’ve always experimented with various influences, my first album had trap music but also soulful boombap. More importantly what I try to stay true to is my work to be as honest as possible to me.”

On the upcoming album Apollo D featured local and international rappers such as Samba T and HHP. He worked with producers such as TR Hitz, Teknoize, Bangu, Omar, Dolla and Mex.

The rapper has previously performed a number of unreleased songs on the album at various events. He has also released a number of tracks such as Swabisa Satane.

The rapper who is amongst the OG rappers has also been working behind the musical scenes mentoring young and upcoming rappers as well as featuring on their tracks.

“All I can say to upcoming rappers remember that the community looks to us to tell our stories.”

In his 12-year career in the hip-hop industry Apolo D has three albums under his belt, The Meaning Of Life, which was released in 2005, The Rise Again released in 2008, Good And Evil that was released in 2012. He has also four mix tapes on top of the albums.            

Apart from the music he has been one of the influential people behind Kast’s long walk after joining the walk from Francistown to Mahalapye.
