Saleshando was speaking at Makhura’s victory celebration recently.

He said that Makhura potrayed traits of a good leader, a true politician and a determined citizen intent on changing Botswana for the better. “Despite losing three times contesting for this ward, councillor Makhura never gave up because he is not a politician who is in it just for the benefits.

He is an advocate, an agent of change and had pure intentions at heart to change the welfare of this community. He is indeed a seasoned councillor,” he said.

He also applauded Makhura for sticking with the BCP despite his countless losses noting that if he didn’t have the heart for his people, he would have allowed himself to be “poisoned” by the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and decamped like other weak-minded modern politicians.

Saleshando said that traits of Makhura’s hardwork and a voice for his people are notable as developments can now be seen in Khurumela ward which he fought for to happen.

He cited the Khurumela-Botswana International University of Science amd Technology (BIUST) road, which he said Makhura had sleepless nights fighting for until it was constructed.

He added: “This is what we mean by being a patriot. This man has the best interest of his people at heart and by continuing to give your votes to him, I can assure you that he will continue to be your voice, hence bringing more developments in your area”.

BCP veteran, Taolo Lucas said Makhura grew up under his watch as a politician, describing him as a true leader with a pure heart.

He said such perseverance that he potrays is a rare trait amongst today’s politicians who can sell their souls for mere coins. He said it saddens him as a veteran politician to see some politicians selling their souls, forgetting that their voters put their trust in them to free them from the BDP misrule.

“Our country is drowning under BDP and as the opposition we are the only hope for our people but it is so sad to see the very same people who could pull us out selling their souls and allowing the heartless leaders to continue killing the once peaceful Botswana,” Lucas said.

He said that if Batswana have not been woken up by the recent conditions of President Ian Khama’s retirement package, then he doesn’t know what it will take for them to open their eyes that the late Sir Seretse Khama’s son is indeed a vulture that is going to milk the country dry.

Many other opposition politicians spoke highly of Makhura and how active he is at the council. The recently elected Boikago/Madiba ward councillor Area Gabathusi said that Makhura is one of the councillors he looks up to.
