Area L youth clinic to celebrate AVW

Sexual Reproductive Health coordinator for Greater Francistown, Caroline Setshego told Mmegi they are expecting overwhelming attendance.

She said they anticipate the public to make a show because of the positive response they got through their posters, door-to-door campaigns, and word-of-mouth during consultation at the clinic.

Setshego added that AVW provides opportunities for countries to strengthen immunisation services and systems through advocacy, education and social mobilisation activities.

She also said that AVW will be used to raise awareness on immunisation services and other high impact interventions as well as to sentisise the community about the forth coming Child Health Days (CHD).

She added that CHD would be held from May 2 to 31, 2017.

Setshego said that the Ministry of Health and Wellness would use the AVW opportunity to sentisise and raise community awareness on the Addis Ababa Declaration on immunisations.

The declaration stated that universal immunisation coverage is a cornerstone and development in Africa.

“The slogan for the AVW is vaccinated communities; healthy communities and the theme for the 2017 edition is ‘vaccines protect everyone, get vaccinated’,” she said.

She said that they are going to inform the community about the AVW and CHD using different structures such as giving health talks in the facilities.

Setshego noted that the public will be educated about the importance of immunisation services and other key child survival interventions.

She added that they are going to screen for fewer than five cards for missed opportunities, tracking immunisation defaulters providing vaccinations, distributing of ORS and Zinc.

“We are also going to caution the public about the dangers, signs and symptoms of malaria. The public will also be encouraged on keeping a healthy diet,” she said.
