Gabashe, who originates from Mokgomane, is alleged to have on August 27, 2016 in Mokgomane village, killed his father, Olefile Gabashe after stabbing him with a knife following an argument. He also allegedly used a tyre lever in committing the crime.

In October 2016, a psychiatric evaluation report ruled that the accused person was fit to stand trial.

Motswagole had put it to State attorney Keganegile Oaitse that it was unfair that Gabashe was behind bars and the prosecution had not prepared replying papers after he had served them.

Oaitse said they had not received Gabashe’s papers. However, when granted an opportunity to advance his reasons for applying for bail, Gabashe said he wanted to seek medical attention.

“I had an accident in 2007 and need to see a doctor regularly.

They refused to attend to me at Princess Marina Hospital because I had not brought my cards, which are at home,” he said.

Motswagole did not see it as reason enough to grant Gabashe bail immediately and offered to write an order directing the hospital to attend to Gabashe. He turned down the offer saying he wanted to wait for his trial in Ramotswa where he repairs shoes.

Motswagole set June 14, 2018 as the date for his bail hearing.

Gabashe seemed to be confused with the times he spent behind bars. When quizzed when he was arrested he just said the year before last. But he could not confirm if it was indeed in 2016.

In his past appearances, Gabashe has at some point complained that other inmates sexually assaulted him and that warders were beating him up.
