Woman still missing 14 days after drinking spree

Police District No.5 Officer commanding, Superintendent Peter Gochela explained in an interview Monday that the woman has been missing since April 15. The woman hails from Legonono ward in Gumare.

Gochela explained that woman was with other three friends in Gumare having a nice time during Easters. He explained that the four revellers drove to the outskirts of Gumare to continue their nice time.

Amongst this group, two were a couple while the missing woman and another man in the car appeared to be unrelated.

Gochela explained that during statements, the remaining three gave evidence that midway while driving out of Gumare they stopped to relieve themselves.

He said according to their statements, an unexpected happened as the other woman ran off into the bush for no apparent reason.

The trio gave chase, but the woman disappeared and a week later, she is still at large. Gochela explained that a search party was dispatched and on Saturday they beefed up the search with a police chopper.

He explained that on Sunday, they had to call back the police chopper as the search continued to draw blanks.

However.Gochela said yesterday the foot search comprising of police and community members was continuing.

He said at the moment they are not suspecting any foul play but was quick to point out to ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, Gochela explained that in another matter under investigation relating to a robbery case involving Ipelegeng workers payments, they have so far failed to make any progress.

On March 3, Government officials were allegedly robbed of cash amounting to P400, 000 in Shorobe village, 30 kilometres from Maun which was meant for paying Ipelegeng workers in the neighbouring villages.

The officers in possession of the funds were a police officer, Ipelegeng pay officer, a driver and an official of Shorobe Village Development Committee VDC).

Gochela said he could not reveal much details as investigations are on. A source told Mmegi that around 9am on March 3, unknown assailants armed with a gun attacked the officers while they were sleeping in the VDC compound and made away with the funds.

The assailants apparently pulled a clean job as nobody saw much except the footprints, showing that the alleged robbers used a car, which picked them up behind a nearby cattle kraal.
