Miss Independence 2018 auditions around the corner

She explained that unlike in the previous years, the pageant does not have restrictions as young women from 17 to 35 years of age would be allowed to partake in the beauty contest irrespective of marital status, having tattoos or not, their body weight and more.
“Women who have a certain disability would also be allowed to audition as long as they will be able to partake in all the activities. Those who are interested in grabbing this year’s title are expected to wear casual and bring their identity cards as the event is strictly open to Batswana only,” she said.
She said during the auditions, they would be asking questions that would focus on traditions as the pageant is aimed at promoting and selling Setswana culture.
Phuti said the questions would be asked in Setswana and English.
This decision was made after the organisers realised that a number of young Batswana are not proud of speaking their mothertongue and therefore prefer English, which is the country’s second language.
Phuti added that they expect the participants to be able to know diane, maele, traditional games, dithamalakane and other traditional aspects. She urged the youth from different parts of the country to audition so that they could have an opportunity to showcase their talents and also win the title.
“At the grand finale, we would like to select the perfect candidate who will be able to represent our country at Miss Culture Worldwide beauty pageant that will be hosted in Zimbabwe on June 2, 2018.
Our queen will be competing against other queens from different countries across the globe that will also be showcasing their cultures on the international platform.
She will showcase our tradition, talent and also sell our tourism sector,” she proudly said. Phuti added the queen would showcase Setswana items such as ditlatlana, phafana, traditional broom and some Setswana foods on the international platform.
The non-refundable audition fee is P250 per person.
