Security Upped For Toropo Ya Muka Fest

“Last year security (at the Francistown Sports Complex) was our concern. We feel that the venue at Botho is very spacious and more secure than the previous one. The security of our patrons and their valuables is what we value the most,” said one of the main organisers Bonno Ngaka, who is known by his stage name DJ Colastraw.

Speaking at a press conference to update on the show, Colastraw stated that there would be around 200 people who will be responsible for the event’s security. “If we do not take issues around security seriously, the event may attract bad publicity and end up receiving less support from Batswana,” he said.

Last year’s event attracted more than 4, 000 people and the organisers anticipate more will come for the 2018 event. “We are readying ourselves to deal with around 10, 000 people which is the capacity of the facility we will be using at Botho.” Colastraw added that the tickets for the event are selling relatively fast.

“Most Batswana have a penchant for buying tickets during days leading up to the event. This time around it is different. People have been buying tickets in large numbers. The first batch of the tickets has already been sold out. This is the first time that the first batch has been sold out this early. Even the merchandise for the event is doing well in terms of sales,” he said.

This year’s event patron, the Francistown deputy mayor Godisang Radisigo has urged Batswana most particularly the city residents to support the festival. He said it is vital to support the entertainment industry as it can help diversify the ailing economy of the city.

On the day of the festival there will also be a marathon in which the winner will walk away with P10, 000. There will also be a five-a-side tourney.

Tickets for the event are going at P100, while a ticket and a ‘Toropo ya Muka’ branded t-shirt trades at P200. Those who buy t-shirts alone will have to part ways with P120.

The festival features 100% local artist and DJs, amongst them Amantle Brown and Latimmy. Over 60 (combined) upcoming artists and DJs are scheduled to perform at the festival.

Tickets, merchandise sales and other activities surrounding the events are carried out at Galo Mall. Activations for the event have also been taking place in Gaborone.
