Mokotedi, who graduated from the University of Botswana (UB) with a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB), was immediately awarded a prestigious scholarship from the European Union to do his Masters in Laws (LLM) at the University of Pretoria. He also had a short stint at Makerere University in Uganda where his Master’s thesis was supervised.

The Mochudi native go-getter says he has never thought any assignment, responsibility is beyond his capabilities. He is not new to leadership. During his student days at the UB, Mokotedi was elected president of the student representative council. He was a controversial and radical student leader who fought many battles with then Vice Chancellor Professor, Thabo Fako.

Mokotedi has previously taught law and practised as an attorney. He was groomed and nurtured professionally by the accomplished and flamboyant Advocate Duma Boko and attorney Keresepe Sekwenyane. Two years ago, he was appointed executive director of ILES PTY LTD, a training subsidiary of BOPEU with the task of leading the institute to full accreditation status in line with the new requirements by the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA). By December last year, BOPEU celebrated the attainment of this milestone at their annual conference held in Palapye as they displayed their accreditation certificates.

Two years down the line, BOPEU has moved him to the next level, as head of legal services and industrial relations.

Mokotedi was in high spirits as he discussed with The Monitor, the new exciting challenges that await him at the CBD based BOPEU headquarters.

“I see it as a demonstration of trust and confidence in my capabilities, young as I am.  It is very humbling.

It is not every day that a young professional like myself is accorded a position of high responsibility within a big organisation like BOPEU.

Through the support of the leadership of president Masego Mogwera, secretary general Topias Marenga, the ILES board of directors, management and staff, the goal of attaining accreditation for the institute was reached. I remain humbled by the support I was given by the board of directors and the staff I supervised,” Mokotedi said.

Mokotedi says in his new assignment he is expected to establish and lead a department of capable lawyers, and industrial relations specialists.

As part of the preparations for the task ahead Mokotedi says BOPEU is sending him for further studies in Turin, Italy, in a week’s time.  “I believe in professional and personal development, hence I welcome and cherish the opportunity to further and better my professional tools in Italy,” Mokotedi said.
