Arrest warrant out for 'Facebook rapist' suspect

The alleged perpetrator, Dropper Monna, 33, was granted bail by the then Chief Magistrate Thebeetsile Mulalu who as of beginning of April was transferred to Maun.

The state alleges that Monna, a former security officer, raped his first victim on March 1, 2018 at Block 5 and robbed her of a black Lenovo cellphone worth P599.

Monna, who allegedly uses multiple Facebook accounts, is also charged with raping his second victim also at Block 5 at knifepoint.

Monna’s cases have since been transferred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

He was supposed to appear in court on Tuesday for status report, but he failed to do so.

Prosecutor Carol Mantle applied for Monna’s warrant of arrest before the new Chief Magistrate Taboka Mopipi who is now presiding over the matter.

Said Mantle: “I was informed that the accused was present in court during the last mention and is aware of today’s mention date, but he is not before court this morning for reasons unknown to the prosecution.  I make an application for a warrant of arrest to be issued against him and pray that I be given time to assess the case since I recently received it from the police.”

Chief Magistrate Mopipi granted the warrant of arrest against Monna and made an order that the matter should be mentioned in court on May 28.

Investigations in the matter are still continuing.

Monna was granted bail on condition that he pays P1,000, reports at Kutlwano Police Station once every month and attends court as and when required to do so.

In one of his alleged Facebook accounts, Monna claims to be a special constable with the Botswana Police Service based at Kutlwano Police Station.

The police also suspect that Monna’s victims may have fallen prey to his shenanigans because he met them in front of Kutlwano after appointing with them.

The police shot Monna on the leg at some thickets in Block 4 when he tried to escape the police at the time of his arrest.

By then Monna was high on the police’s list of ‘most wanted’ after two women reported him of rape and robbery.
