Troubled Magosi call crisis Indaba

The meeting called by the Trust is expected to draw a large crowd with Chiefs having faced difficulties both on and off the field.

Club spokesperson, Clifford Mogomotsi yesterday told Mmegi Sport that a lot has been reported about the four-time league champions.

He said some of the issues were unfortunate to come out before they could even brief their supporters. He said they decided to call the meeting now so that they do not wait for the end of the season to map the way forward on several pressing matters.

Amongst the issues to be discussed tomorrow is the current performance of the team, he said. Chiefs crashed out of the Mascom Top 8 in the quarterfinal stage against Jwaneng Galaxy who went on to win the competition.

They are also finding it difficult in the league with eight matches left in the season.

From 22 games, they have managed to snatch only seven wins, which is an unusual feat for the Kgatleng giants in the last 10 years.  They are currently in danger of finishing outside the top eight, which will deny them an entry into next season’s Mascom Top 8. The cup has eluded them since its inception and their best performance in the competition is reaching the semi-final stage.

“We should not wait for the end of the season to map the way forward. We have to start now hence we called up this meeting,” Mogomotsi said.

He further said another key issue to be discussed will be the current impasse between the Trust and the society, which has already reached the courts of law. The two parties were asked to sort out their differences outside the court, but have reportedly failed to agree on anything thus far.

The general membership is expected to give direction to the current committee on the way forward regarding the matter. Mogomotsi confirmed that expectation has been that certain pronouncements should have been made by now regarding the issue.

He said some were time bound and could not wait for the season to end before they could brief the general membership on progress.  The impasse has been partly blamed for the current performance of the team.

Since the infighting began, the club lost investor, Sayed Jamali at the start of the season. His departure left a financial hole in the club and they lost several key players. They also found themselves in unfortunate circumstances with players failing to report for training due to late payments of salaries.  The meeting is expected to start at 9am.
