BOTESSA to pick improved team for World University Games

The national team will represent the country at the World University Games in China in August.

The BOTESSA technical teams are scheduled to meet this afternoon to discuss the Saturday competition’s rules and regulations.

BOTESSA technical chairperson, Patrick Moesi said the meeting is part of the preparations that have been going well.

“From these competitions, we want a strong team that will represent the country at the world University Games in China,” Moesi said.

“We will be looking forward to the best performance.

We are not in position to estimate the number of athletes who will be sent for the games in China,” he added.

He said their main aim is to send a strong team that will improve the 2015 performance where they did not win anything saying that in 2012 they brought home a gold medal through 800m sensation, Nijel Amos.

Meanwhile, BOTESSA spokesperson, Duncan Segabo said the Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Dr Alfred Madigela will officially open the weekend competition.  He said the championships are scheduled to start early tomorrow with competition in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m,

10,000m races. Other races include 4 x400m relay, 400m, and 100m for women and 110m for men.  Field events will include hurdles, shot-put, javelin, discus, long and high jump where there are no heats.
