The accolades were announced by renowned Global Finance magazine, as part of its twenty-fourth annual awards for the World’s Best Banks.

The Group also celebrates achievements in Malawi, South Africa, Mauritius and Namibia, with Standard Bank Group members taking home the title of Best Bank in those markets too. This is a true testament to the strength, expertise, and insight driven approach across the Group, and which are felt in each of the markets in which it operates.

“We are excited and honoured for being named the 2017 Best Bank in Botswana by Global Finance magazine. This accolade is a symbol, recognition and appreciation for the work we do in Botswana and confirms our commitment to providing relevant and quality financial services in our market. It is through our efforts at supporting economic activity in various sectors across the country that we are recognised. We therefore believe this award clearly demonstrates our capability and expertise in the banking sector in Botswana and Africa,” said Leina Gabaraane, chief executive, Stanbic Bank Botswana.

In identifying the leading banks per country, as well as the regional victors, selections were made by the editors of Global Finance. This followed from extensive consultations with corporate financial executives, bankers, banking consultants, and analysts across the world. Factors and criteria looked at included: growth in assets, profitability, geographic reach, strategic relationships, new business development and innovation in products. In addition, the opinions of equity analysts, credit rating analysts, banking consultants and others involved in the industry were taken into consideration.

“Global Finance’s annual Best Bank Awards celebrate financial institutions that excel at delivering customers the services and products tailored to meet their unique needs,” said Joseph D. Giarraputo, publisher and editorial director of Global Finance. “These banks may not be the biggest or oldest, but their energy and adaptability make them stand out in the field.”

This year celebrating 25 years since opening its doors in Botswana, Stanbic Bank Botswana continues to build on its strong reputation for moving Batswana forward.

The Global Finance accolade adds to a growing treasure chest of awards by the Bank, including but not limited to being named Best Investment Bank in Botswana at the 2016 EMEA Finance African Banking awards.

“We are the business that we are today because of our staff, our customers, the support of our communities, and the well-regulated and stable economic climate we operate in.

Thus, accolades such as these are not a mere pat on the back, but pay homage to the many people and organisations who help bring us to where we are, and continue to work with us in moving Batswana forward. We thank them and we celebrate with them, committing ourselves to always getting better and doing more to make progress real,” said Gabaraane.
