The activations of the Kwambala Festival have been rife in the city over the past holidays and the response promises a festival to remember on April 29.

The festival, which is headlined by the legendary traditional soul maestro, Johnny Mokhali, will be held at the Francistown old stadium.

It has also amongst its rich line up, renowned kwasa kwasa legends, Franco and Afro Musica, Alfredo Mos and Les Africa Sounds, Jeff Matheatau, MC Maswe, Maghebula and Dinkwenkgoga and many more.

The organiser, Lesego Kwambala is enthralled by the response at the ongoing activations. Thus far activations have been held in different locations around the city and mainly at drinking holes.

He said they have also taken advantage of the holiday football tournaments to activate and push the ticket sales, which he said has thus far surpassed the half a thousand mark.

“Not only are our tickets flying, the merchandise is also selling awesomely. The hype is building up nicely with our activations and they will continue until the morning of the festival day,” he said.

“We are expecting a lot of tickets sales this week and the next. This is a festival to look up to in the north and we are filling up the stadium. This festival is a battle of the legends and the pride of the youth. It is going to be exciting to watch.”

Kwambala said they have also made arrangements to take activations to other areas outside the city. He said in Palapye they will host a pre-party at the community hall the day before the festival. Johnny Mokhali will also headline the pre-party, alongside Maghebula, Mc Maswe, Madala and Kelly Jess, Oscar le Chakabula and DJ Gouveya.

“With our line-up we are expecting scores of people to come from other places, hence we will also activate in other areas. On April 28 we are meeting Johnny (Mokhali) in Palapye and we have arranged a pre-party there on the night to welcome the main man.”

Kwambala also said they will have a tour of the city in the morning of the festival day with all the artists before the gates open at 11 am.
