Makhwengwe said for now he is uncertain whether he will be with the team next season when they make their long awaited return to the elite league. He said up to now he has not been offered a new contract with the current one coming to an end next month. “My contract is coming to end in June so I do not know. I need to go home and rest. I cannot say yes or no on whether I will be with them next season. They have not approached me. They should have approached me three months prior to the expiry of the contract and they didn’t. They have their reasons so all I am going to do is see off my current contract,” Makhwengwe said after the match.
He said he was happy for the team after such a long time playing in the lower division. He said teams like Prisons XI are marginalised with people labelling them as institutional. He said the season has been hectic for them but was unhappy about a lot of things including the match officiating. “I think I was the most depressed coach even more than those who have relegated because I was not happy with a lot of things in our football. The attitude of the officials against Prisons,” he said.
His side came into the second leg of the play-off leading 2-1 but had to endure a difficult 90 minutes on Saturday with Sua Flamingoes firing from all cylinders to try and force a comeback. From the first whistle the visiting side showed their hunger for and pressed Prisons XI in their own half for some time. Their main undoing, however, was their lack of decisiveness in front of goals. Prisons XI then began settling in the game with speedy winger, Kelelelo Kgosimore and Kitso Mpuisang looking dangerous when in possession. It was Sua Flamingoes who got their goal in the 35th-minute through Monametsi Tsapoga after a goalmouth scramble. They had another chance before the halftime break, but Prisons XI quickly dealt with the danger. In the second half Sua Flamingoes continued to search for the second goal and brought some changes with experienced striker, Wellington Maposa and midfielder, Kabo Rasuping coming on, but Prisons managed to survive the scare.
