Meet The Five BDP Moshupa-Manyana Hopefuls

Karabo Gare
The youngest of the five candidates is 38-year-old Karabo Gare. He is said to be the one preferred by President Mokgweetsi Masisi. Gare, an accountant by training, was born and raised in Moshupa. He has worked for Botswana Railways, Botswana National Sports Council and Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) before quitting to be self-employed.
“I have been a BDP member since 2001, but could not be active because of my work. I then became active in 2013 after quitting my job. I have been involved in helping youth in our constituency with Youth Development Fund proposals. I have also been active in football being the chairperson of Kgabosetso Football Club,” he said.
Gare said his priority if voted for would be creating youth employment opportunities through entrepreneurship. He said he would do that heavily reliant on his experience from LEA.
Lentswe Mosanako
Mosanako, also from Moshupa is a former councillor whose 10-year service from 2004- 2014 ended at the primary election. Before joining politics in 2002, Mosanako was a soldier for 20 years. During his tenure at council, he held various positions including Chairperson of Moshupa Sub District Council and regional leadership of the party.
Mosanako is currently an agropreneur and also runs a butchery in Moshupa. “The BDP government already has policies in place that I would ensure are implemented. I will ensure that I complete what I started as a councillor,” he said.
Benjamin Mogodi
Mogodi is a councillor for Moshupa South. He was voted into office in 2014. He was formerly employed at Lobatse Town Council as an accounts clerk and rose through the ranks until he quit in 1989. He then went into the transport business, which he is currently running.
“I have worked closely with Masisi when I was a council chairman for Moshupa Sub District, I want to complete what I started in terms of the developments in the constituency. My voice will be amplified as a Member of Parliament,” he said.
Stephen Kganela
Kganela who hails from Manyana, an engineer by profession, worked for Local Government and Lands ministry as Works Superintendent. He worked for several ministries too and trained engineers before retiring in 2005. Kganela lost to Masisi in the primary elections in 2009. He believes he has got a good number, which encouraged him to seek another chance after Masisi became President. He said as an engineer he would advocate for roads and water amongst things needed by Moshupa-Manyana constituents.
Boikhutso Disele
Disele is an economist, accountant and a trained manager. He worked for Botswana Development Corporation from lower ranks until leaving as a deputy managing director in 1990. He currently runs an Internet provision company.
Disele tried his luck for a parliamentary seat for the first time in 1999 under the Botswana National Front. “I then joined the BDP in 2004 and worked in the campaign teams of Masisi in 2009 and 2014. If I get voted into Parliament, I will support initiatives such as mineral beneficiation,” he said.The candidates will submit their names today and vetting will take place during the week before the primaries take place over the weekend.
