Although the Botswana Football Association (BFA) could not confirm the development, Mmegi Sport is reliably informed that Setete would assume the position of BPL general manager, reporting to the mother body’s chief executive officer (CEO), Ookeditse Malesu.

The new arrangement would mean the post of BPL CEO is abolished and instead, replaced by the position of a general manager, a structure which existed before Mamelodi’s arrival in 2013.

However, the move has been condemned as a sustained ‘jobs for pals’ drive, which has already seen Malesu replace Kitso Kemoeng as BFA CEO.

Setete refused to comment on the matter while Malesu said he was not aware of the move. “That’s news to me. I don’t know anything about that,” Malesu said.

However, sources insist, more re-alignments are in the pipeline, with the Maclean Letshwiti administration keen to put its “trusted lieutenants” who were foot soldiers during a campaign which toppled Tebogo Sebego. “There is expectation from those who campaigned, and already we are seeing movement in terms of appointments of those aligned to Letshwiti. It has both its advantages and disadvantages. Some would feel that the president has surrounded himself with yes men, who will not openly challenge him, while others will argue, you have to work with a team that you trust,” a source said.

Letshwiti has previously said deserving candidates who were part of his campaign will be considered for positions.

However, the arrangement appears to have brought early trouble in the new Paradise after his two vice presidents, Marshlow Motlogelwa and Segolame Ramotlhwa were opposed to the appointment of Malesu.

Setete’s appointment might, however, be delayed as Mamelodi’s lawyer Dutch Leburu has indicated that they will challenge his client’s termination in court.
