Confused over Kenya trip: Chikanda

Zibane Chikanda, voted the best sportsman, said he has been sent from pillar to post about the trip.

The boxer said he never got a response when he enquired about the trip although he maintains the BNSC had promised the best sportsman, woman and person, a vacation in the East African country.

“I called at the BNSC to check on the progress, I was told that the commission knew nothing about the Kenya trip,” he said.

“Later I was referred to (BNSC sports development officer) Steve Bothasitse, as it was believed he was the one dealing with the issue.

“I then was told that I am not the only person who was supposed to go to Kenya.”

He said the BNSC never got back to him and said he has lost hope.

Chikanda said he could not shed much light about the trip since there were no specific details or proper briefing after the awards ceremony.

Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) vice president, Orapeleng Mosalakgotla said he does not recall anything about the Kenya trip promise.

He said that if that was the case the athletes should have reported the matter to the association, which will in turn engage the BNSC.

Meanwhile, Bothasitse admitted that there were certain athletes who were supposed to go to Kenya for vacation. He said Chikanda had contacted (BNSC business development manager) Thatayaone Kgosimore, but is not aware of the response.

Bothasitse said the matter was handled through BNSC marketing, adding everything is in place and athletes should come forward. He said as far as they are concerned, it is athletes holding back the trip, as they are supposed to present themselves to the BNSC for arrangements.
