Professor Kgomotso Moahi said this today when giving opening remarks at the ongoing international women’s health conference held at the University of Botswana conference centre.

She said for women to contribute to the engine of economic growth they should be healthy. Moahi said poor health for women could limit their capabilities in contributing to the growth of the economy.

“Usually when talking about women’s health people think about sexual reproductive health issues, but it is time aspects like mental health of women be a priority and be considered to be addressed,” Moahi said.

Giving goals of the meeting, Dr Doreen Ramogola-Masire said the first ever-international women’s health conference provides a platform to allow for constructive dialogue towards women’s health.

“The goal of the conference is to examine international, regional and national ‘best practices’ and innovative approaches in women’s health issues, and to chart a way forward on how to empower our healthcare professionals,” Ramogola-Masire said.
