E-Card Comes To Botswana

The two partners say the card is going to be a must-have for local businesses. The card was launched in Francistown by the managing director of Gigatech Botswana, Gadzanani Kind Makopola.

BOCCIM regional manager, Eileen van der Est says they have teamed up with Gigatech Botswana, a Francistown-based IT company to introduce the e-Card. The e-card is to be rolled out to other parts of the country in the near future.

Van der Est said the card is a very effective way of marketing company products and services as it harnesses modern technology. 'It is a business card CD-Rom that will be used to market company products and services. It uses either audio or video clippings to market the products and services. There are a lot of benefits, and one of them is that it is inexpensive and can be used by any company. It can leave a lasting impression on clients and potential clients,' says Van der Est.

Prices of the cards differ according to the sizes of the companies. The standard charge for a card that uses only audio is 2,500 while the one with video clippings cost P3,500. Van der Est said they want people to effectively market their products and services through the card and so far there has been a considerable interest from members in Francistown.

At the launch seminar, Makopola said: 'I have just been to India where I was made to realise that Botswana lags behind in technology by up to 15 years. This e-Card is meant to bridge the technological gap'. Those who attended the launch said the card will be ideal to market their products and services quickly and cheaply than before. 'It is a good idea that we must embrace. I hope it will bring desired results to the growth of our businesses,' said a businessman during question time.
