Ex-fencing president floors BNSC in court

BNSC suspended Mudongo for three years last year for undermining the BNSC authority. During the suspension, Mudongo was barred from holding any sport leadership position. High Court judge, Modiri Letsididi ruled that the decision of BNSC chief executive officer, Falcon Sedimo, who is the first respondent in the matter, should be set aside and declared null and void. The judge ruled that the BNSC should bear costs for the legal proceedings.
Reacting to the ruling, Mudongo said he has been vindicated as the court has cleared him. He said the legal costs are around P30,000.
“I have been saying that BNSC is under wrong leadership. I was banned for three years because I was questioning things that were not being done properly. I was against micro-managing of sport and misuse of resources,” he said.
Mudongo said he was also against the misuse of funds and being bullied by the BNSC. He said since the court has cleared him, he hopes the intimidation that he has been subjected to, would stop.
“I think I should now take it to the next level. I should move to claim my position as BAFS president. The illegal committee should vacate office. The case is already at the court,” he said.
Mudongo claimed that there is looting of BNSC resources. “An example is this court case whereby BNSC should pay legal costs. As far as I am concerned, the costs should be paid from individuals’ pockets not the organisation,” he said. Mudongo said he would make a follow up to find out why the costs should be paid by BNSC. He said these are decisions that are taken by individuals being Sedimo under instruction from Reikeletseng.
“Reikeletseng should be operating with a board. Where is the board when BNSC is under siege? I am going to call for his resignation,” said Mudongo.
He said there is evidence that BNSC is in crisis and sport is not benefiting anything while the government pumps millions into it. Mudongo said he has taken BAFS committee to court but BNSC volunteered to cover their costs. He said that is tantamount to looting of funds. Mudongo said he is going to make sure that those funds paid by the Commission are returned.
“I am also calling for a forensic audit at BNSC. Another audit should be on staff. People cannot just be hired to run BNSC because they are former athletes,” Mudongo said.
For his part, Sedimo said he had not seen the ruling and therefore, could not comment. He said they have to seek guidance from their lawyers first and take it from there.
