Maun Lodge general manager, Ngonidzashe Shumba, said: “Starting Monday 10th we are fully booked by people coming for the Easters holidays. We are booked until Tuesday 18th”. He further said that Mokoro Lodge, an affiliate of Maun Lodge, is also fully booked for the entire Easter holidays.

He revealed that amongst dignitaries they will host include Cabinet ministers and international artists coming for various entertainment events over the short holidays. Amongst some of the biggest events coming here is Mascom Derby, which is projected would attract more than 15,000 visitors.

Shumba said some of their guests are coming for the inaugural Maun Jazz Festival, which will feature South African songstress, Zahara, Johny Mokhali and veteran musician Stiga Sola.

Banks Gaarekwe, an official at Khwai Development Trust, which operates camps in the Okavango Delta, explained that they are also receiving rising bookings for their campsites.

He explained that their guests are both local and international tourists coming for the Easter holiday who also booked to see wildlife.

Gaarekwe however attributed the heightened interest to the fact that their competitors in the delta have been affected by last month’s heavy rainfalls, which flooded some of the camp sites.

Cresta Rileys Hotel general manager, Ferdinand Sebinyane explained that they are fully booked on for Friday and Saturday. “We have been busy this week due to business travellers.

On Easter we will be hosting holiday comers predominantly those coming to the Mascom horse racing derby,” Sebinyane said. Booking officer at Alpha Accommodation here further acknowledged that bookings are rising for the Easter holidays.

She explained on Tuesday morning that their facility is just left with two unbooked rooms.

Centre Lodge and Airport Lodge in Maun also report full bookings for Friday and Saturday.
