The organiser of the pageant, Goratamang Monwametsi stated that there would be only 12 finalists. According to the 26-year-old, who is also a model, this year’s edition of the pageant promises to be uniquely different from the previous edition as it carries a theme that talks to the environment. For this event, there would be no evening gowns.

She told Arts and Culture that preparations are ongoing and so far it’s been exciting. “We had the auditions in February and selected the top 20 contestants and a cleaning campaign at G-West. We have had a number of activities including the Up Kgale Challenge, which was very interesting. We have an interesting theme for this year’s pageant, which is ‘A Friendly, Clean and Healthy Environment’,” she said.

Moreover, Monwametsi stated that they would also host a fashion show on May 25 and a boot camp where the 12 finalists would be taught life-skills before the main event. Monwametsi revealed that this year’s winner of Miss Botswana Bikini Model would receive a scholarship with the Gaborone Universal College of Law (GUC), four-day getaway trip, one-day breakfast and bed and a P2,000 voucher.

The 12 finalists will also get a four-day getaway trip with the queen and her princesses. The first princess will also be offered scholarship at the GUC. She indicated that this year they were lucky to get a good number of sponsors supporting the event. These include Tashy Royal Garden, Zaini’s Cell Corner, GUC, Ambush Safaris, River Ridge Guest house, Rea vaya travel and tours, Lavendry Home breed, Overview Guest House and Immah Bulayani Forex.

“The aim is to empower upcoming models and fashion designers, improve culture and tourism as well as give young models the opportunity to show the beauty of a woman in a sophisticated way,” she added.

Notwithstanding the challenges that they encountered during the inaugural pageant, Monwametsi said this year promises to be a mind-blowing affair, which will reverberate right into the future.

The event will kick off at 6pm. Ticket for the grand finale is selling at P100.
