With Sharps Shooting Stars on the verge of their first ever promotion to the Premier League, the relegation battle and the race for a spot in the play-off remain uncertain.

Three games ago, new First Division entrants, Skoon Boys’ return to the lower division appeared sealed. At that time, they had just collected seven points from 18 with just one victory and four draws. However, there was a twist two weeks ago when they stunned Mogoditshane Fighters 2-1.

This past weekend they beat Modipane United 2-0. Although they remained rooted at the bottom of the log, they have now revived their slim chances of surviving the axe.

They have now collected 13 points, three behind Modipane United who are sitting at position 11. Mochudi Rovers are sitting at position 10 with 17 points. Only two teams will relegate to the lower division depending on what happens in the BTC Premiership relegation battle.

As things stand, it appears only Gilport Lions from the southern part can relegate to the First Division. As it stands, three Premier League sides from the north will bite the dust, which should be a relief for the relegation candidates in the First Division South.

Skoon Boys have to win their remaining two games if they are to survive and hope that both Modipane United and Mochudi Rovers lose. Skoon Boys however now face two tricky fixtures away to Sharps and Letlapeng. Sharps just need a point to seal their promotion. Modipane United face Letlapeng in their next fixture before they end their season against Notwane.

Meanwhile, the battle for the spot in the play-off will also go down to the wire with Uniao Flamengo Santos, Notwane, Black Peril and Mogoditshane Fighters all standing a chance. Santos, however, are in a good position and have opened a four point gap between themselves and three other contenders.

They have 37 points with two games left. Three other candidates all have 33 points. A victory for Santos in their next game against Mochudi Rovers will be enough to secure their second place finish. The league will take an Easter break this coming weekend and continues on April 22.
