In an interview after his side dispatched Gilport Lions 3-0, Duicker said he is working on building the players’ confidence.

He said they are working together as a unit to achieve the best results for the team. “I always tell my players that they play for a big team and they should show it. This is my team. I played for it before, so I want to see the team ascending the ladder because that is where we belong.

I want to take the team back to its shining days,” he said. Duicker also said the players now know that they do not just have to keep the ball. “We play the ball for us to win the games. We are working towards taking Gunners to where it belongs,” he said.

Duiker took over the club as acting head coach last month following Daniel Nare’s mysterious resignation. Reports suggest that Gunners management is yet to engage a new coach who will be assisted by Duicker.

Since he took charge on March 18, Gunners have not lost a match. They played to a 1-1 draw against Township Rollers and won 3-0 against Gilport Lions on Saturday.

Gunners’ veteran right back, Mmoloki Kebalepile said they are working tirelessly within the camp to claim back their status. “I just want to thank God, the team is taking up shape and we are hopeful that at least, we will be in top eight at the end of this season.

I am happy on how we are determined within our camp and we are working tirelessly to achieve that because it is possible,” he said.

Quizzed on how Daniel Nare’s departure affected them, Kebalepile said it came as a surprise but they had to move on. “We never expected coach Nare to leave the team at the time he left.

He left, there is nothing we can do about it and we have accepted it. I am hopeful that we will bring results this season,” Kebalepile said.
