BOTESSA spokesperson, Duncan Segabo told Mmegi Sport that compared to last year’s brackets competitions, there was a lot of improvement during weekend competitions.

“This year, we had more match officials compared to other bracket competitions and the attendance was impressive from the students,” Segabo said. He said they are proud that college and university students are now taking these games seriously. 

He said the turn up was proof that more students are willing to take sports as a career, where they can earn a living.

Three colleges, four universities and four technical colleges progressed to the BOTESSA National Championships to be held at the National Stadium later this month.

Serowe, Tlokweng and Police colleges qualified to represent Bracket A after the three colleges finished in the first three positions in competitions held at the Serowe College of Education.

The bracket was made up of five Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) and four educational colleges in Botswana.

University of Botswana held the bracket B competitions which consisted of 11 universities in which Baisago as the new comers competed very well. Limkokwing, Botho and University  of Botswana qualified to represent the bracket in the national championships.

While four out of 10 technical colleges under Bracket C qualified for the championships which are Maun, Gaborone, Selibe-Phikwe and Oodi Colleges. Meanwhile, Segabo said after they are done with the athletics they will turn focus to football.
